Just wanted to tell you it also works on north bars. Ive worn out 3 depower ropes already but as nak says, it doesn't even show sings of ware after a 2 month of heavy use. and it costs like 2 $. Things I did different- dont use masking tape.The only thing that will piss you off is the Rope coming off the rod or the masking tape peeling back half way locking up the whole process . I took a grinder or file and made a divot almost on the end of the stainless steel rod, slip the end of rope over the end and wrap some heavy thread to lock it in the divot. On north bars put the depower cleat on first(not up side down) , before you insert stainless rod. I also didn't use the glue.

I'm also going to be making my sliding harness rope like this. Will not stretch or ware and its rigid , stiff and holds its shape.

That's sweet. I've tried a lot of options for the sliding harness and found uncovered amsteel wore pretty quick if I used a steel ring or connected the chickenloop directly to the rope. I've been using a covered amsteel line with a Ronstan orbit pulley (connected to a swivel shackel that I connect to my chickenloop) for about a year now and there's not even a hint of wear. Also the swivel shackle is good for untwisting your lines.

One of the other keys to satisfaction for me was cutting off the normal hook from the spreader bar (hacksaw). Then you can lay on your board and paddle around without adjusting your harness....key for rescue maneuvers

After hacking off the loop, the spreader bar still doesnt dent the shit out of your board while paddling? Or maybe you haven't had to self rescue yet?
I was thinking about having my friend weld me up a flat spreader bar. But i will try your way first

Flat would be cool. My spreader bar has a nice padded deal, so it doesn't really dent the board though. The guys with fancy carbon Engine harnesses don't even use a spreader bar per se because the harness is stiff enough to not deform...that would be sick.

Many a times I've ditched my kite completely as it got worked in a wave, paddled into a wave, and passed my kite as it drifted to the beach...good stuff.

Try taking an old spreader bar pad, cut a slit in each end and just shove the bar through the middle. Only the ends need to be exposed. It might reduce the ability to dent your board. Nicks's method of just rotating your harness is the best method because it is simple and effective. No design work involved.

I have a Jaybar/Dynabar http://www.jaystore.eu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=187:beltadapter&catid=1:news&Itemid=67 which is a flat spreader bar, but you will be out ~$140 if you go that route. I have not met anyone that gave a sliding hook a try that did not like it better.

My next setup will have a QR on the sliding bar, a simple ring for a CL and no trim adjustment on the bar. i am trying to find functional simplicity and safety that meets my needs, but I am not quite there yet.
