DIY bootie drier

nice little project there.
you can pickup a cheap ac to dc converter locally at goodwill for $0.99 or $1.99
if it plugs into the wall and has a black box, it is converting power
look at the fine print for the output voltage (amperage should not be an issue)

Why not use a hair dryer ($5 at Goodwill) and you don't event have to turn the hear on...
Personally I use a Dryguy that I found on sale at REI for $27 and it works for both booties and snow boots

Works fine as long as I remember to turn the room's ventilation fan on.
Otherwise, OMG!!

I took some plastic coated sheep wire and created this. Works pretty well. Put it by the fire place or in front of the heater vent in my van and stuff is pretty dry the next day.

This stand plus a shot of mouthwash in each bootie once in a while and no more bootie funk The mouth wash is supposed to kill bacteria that produces the funk. It really works.

Now that everyone is sharing, here goes mine:)
Probably more expensive than Weston's design. I was looking for something I could take apart and use in the car. Also the ability to modify to dry two pair of booties, booties/gloves or just booties.

Fan attached, 12V car plug

45deg elbow to hold the booties open and in place. Filed tube to force air to circulate from the top of the booty. Only two holes on the vertical pipes opposite direction to the elbow.

I later found out that the fan is not necessary if you have a forced air vent you can use.

The design allowed me to dry the boots using the heat vent while still dripping wet by placing a storage container lid (picture not shown). This will hold the water without damaging the floor.

I used some stuff I had already. Assorted PVC from Homedepot:
- Fan from a busted Hairdryer (burnt heating element). Fan are 12V DC
- 1" PVC pipe
- Various 1" Cross, plugs, elbows
- PVC Adapters
- PVC Adhesive (optional)
- Electrical tape

Tools:
- Drill
- Saw
- File
- Sandpaper
- Soldering iron (Fan)

I own this model and although pricey it has served me well for six years. It has a 90 min timer and a heating element. Unless your gear is soaking wet, 90min is suficient. My only complaint is that the air is not directed all the way to the toes. I also have a wetsuit dryer that has a fan but no heating element.

Should it ever break I will be building a replacement. I like what you have done there, Roberto.

I have an assortment of computer case fans installed on my sailboat. Two fans fitted into a junction box at the vent in the head. One fan installed where my custom laptop docking station is. Finally I have two 200mm (huge) fans that I place in my sunroof during the summer to keep air moving. All of these fans are whisper quiet and draw very little power. They have all survived over a year in a marine environment and still work.

So excited, for a DYI day! Thanks for the ideas. Tmrw I'm making a bootie dryer (and an A/C, for my bunnies' hutch)!! So, stand by for some photos to display the completed works.

2 140mm computer case fans
some pvc pipe and JB weld.
12v wall outlet charger
Only thing I bought was the pipe and JB weld. Everything else was found at home. It will dry the booties within a few hours.
