Was Fun to see the enthusiasm for kites :P
The indoor kite flying competition was interesting :ugeek:
Just seeing the worlds largest frying pan and Alligator Man in Long Beach makes it worth the trip :happy7:
But if you went to kiteboard, I think the sign I saw on the way down (last picture) would sum it up :sad11:

Headed to Longbeach this weekend with the family. Have not kited on the coast yet. Some of these post on under currents are starting to freak me out and I've been kiting for four years. I will be kiting (maybe) by myself with life jacket. If I just stay in the shallows, should I be o.k.? Would like some feed back please.

Thanx, Shaun.

I have a beach house in Long Beach and have a good recommendation for you. Also, I was there all last week for 8 days and kited 4 of those days in sunny 4 foot waves at Shipwrecks. From Long Beach, Shipwreks takes exactly 38 minutes and in many ways described in this post and others, it is worth the short drive each day.

Directions: Go across the Astoria Bridge, turn right at Warrenton. At the end of the road, take a left and then about 1/4 of mile, turn right at the Entrance to Fort Stevens State Park. Go to Shipwrecks and in the upper parking lot, there will be other kiters if there is wind. You need 14mph plus N, NW, S, SW. If it is North, go to Parking Lot B for a downwinder to Shipwrecks. You need to just to talk to the other kiters and coordinate the transpo to and from Parking Lot B and Shipwrecks.

If the wind is South and you have a 4/wheel drive, start on the beach and have someone six or so miles South to pick you up.

If the wind is East, there is always a sick flat water spot at the North end of the park.

I am still dreaming about the 400+ waves I caught last week.
