I would add a iCal icon and a Google calendar icon below the calendar and next to the events at the bottom of the main page so that you can subscribe to the calendar.
It will be picked up by iCal like the following link is picked up on a mac (I assume - I don't use a mac):
webcal://adventurers.meetup.com/100/cal ... rs+Meetup/
And by Google, just how the following link is picked up by Google:
http://www.google.com/calendar/render?c ... rs+Meetup/
Then you'd access it just like any normal calendar event. New events, updates, headcounts, rsvps, etc, would show up in iCal or google calendar automagically. This is because when someone looks at their google calendar, google sees an external calendar. Google would then go out and hit our server for the newest calendar updates, and serve them to whatever the user is using (mobile phone, browser) to view the google calendar.
Also, this:
Reminders from all your calendars
You can now receive email or mobile text-message reminders for all your personal calendars. You can also set different types of reminders for each of your events. Google Calendar can notify you of upcoming events, new, changed and cancelled invitations, invitation replies or it can send you a daily agenda every morning. You do not have to worry about missing a thing.
