Looking for gear suggestions

Looking for gear suggestions

Postby kona321 » Fri Jul 19, 2013 10:09 am

Hi,

I currently have a 12m cabrinha switchblade. I'm looking for a 14m switchblade or another option for a beginner kite. My price range would be $500 to $800. Also looking for some booties size 10.

Just looking for something that gets me out and riding.

Thanks,
Keenan

The guy selling all the naish gear on craigslist says he has a new Fly for 800. If you could get him down to 700, then you got the deal of a lifetime. 800 for brand new is still good. With that and your 12m, you won't miss any thing until you need a 9m.

So do you start with a big kite and go smaller? I have nothing so far except my wakeboard gear

The wind speed and your weight determines the kite you fly. The website of the kite mfg should have a chart that shows the wind range of specific kites. In general, 14m 10-15 mph, 12m 15-20, 10m 20-25, 8m 25-30, 6m 30+

That is just general. Your weight, board size, and kite specifics will change things.

I recommend taking a lesson for your first time out. The instructor will answer all these questions specific to you and get you on the right track. After that, don't hesitate to ask questions to kiters you see on the beach. Most all kiters are cool and helpful.

I had a lesson already but it was a couple years ago at Necker Island which was awesome. I only learned to turn left hah. Thanks for the low down. Sounds like I have a lot to learn.
