what Cabrinha gear are you most interested in trying?

Postby C.J. » Thu Feb 12, 2015 12:07 pm

I'm getting ready to order 2015 demo kites and boards.

Since these are essentially for the community to get a chance to try I'd like to ask the question, what are you most interested in trying?

I'll be ordering 4 kites and 4 boards again. So far only the 5'2" secret weapon is set in stone.

Tentatively this is the list I've got, if you don't see something on the list that you're dying to try, let me know and I'll see about changing the order to help get the most interesting demos up here this year.

Kites
15m Contra
13m Contra
11m Switchblade
9m Switchblade

Boards
139 Ace
141 Tronic
5'10" Proto
5'2" Secret Weapon

Wow nothing smaller than 9m, how are you going to get out there next winter when the wind is blowing ? If it was me and I had 4 kites to order i think I'd do 17, 13, 9 & 6 because 15 and 13 seems kind of too close, especially the light wind kites generally have such a huge range compared with the smaller kites.

I guess you would probably be shocked then that last year the smallest demo kite I had was an 11m ;)

To answer you're question. The demo's are made available primarily for summer conditions at Jetty. They want to have a variety of light wind kites available to test out so that multiple people can try kites at the same time.

I do have an older 7m that I keep around for big storms and I did end up buying a 9m last year in addition to the demo quiver.

fyi, I'm hoping to try not to make this a commercial post. I'm not selling or hyping anything. I want to provide the community the opportunity to form their own opinion.

Cheers,
CJ

Not sure how you are trying to keep this from being commercial. You list kites and boards from only one company. Seems biased to me. But really I don't care. Its Friday and I am bored. There is no wind in site for me today.

I did however go over to the mentioned manufacturers website and checked out what they have to offer this year. BOOM commercial. But it doesnt matter anyway I dont want to afford even the cheapest kite they have to offer.

But really I dont care :D

Pearse,
Don’t get your panties in a bunch. I know it has been almost a week since you have been on a wave, and you’re getting a little moody, but this is an important public service.

The 2015 kites after all, have improved the multivariable fixed-point vector array dingles connecting to lateral motion enhancement points. This highly variable fixed connection allows a more fluid cavitation entry into the virtual apparent real wind forward aft.

If a poster is receiving benefit (discounted gear/cash/sponsor) from the manufacturer and is discussing their brand name to get people to demo that brand name, it benefits the Manufacturer. That is commercial.

If I asked which of my 2008 HPs I should keep for people to demo, because they are the best kites ever made, that is not commercial. I receive no discounts, no free gear (stickers don’t count as free gear) and I am not sponsored by Best. I do plan on approaching Best for some sort of deal when the No Style-style becomes popular and I am recognized as one of the NO Style pioneers. Until then, it is combing the used gear section for me.

I think CJ's post is really nice actually, he's giving us the opportunity to modify his order for the benefit of the entire PSKite community. A yearly thread about what Cabrinha gear a rep should order, come on, that's not aggressive marketing. No photos or any other marketing material included in the post, that shouldn't be compared to a commercial ad, he's just doing us a service.

My point about not making it commercial is that I'm not making any claims about anything. All I'm saying is "hey do you want to try anything from brand X?" because I'd like to help make that possible. I've definitely bought kites that after I tried them I didn't like them. It sucks and I've lost a lot of money that way. I think a demo can help prevent that from happening. I don't expect you to like the kites or boards since its totally about your personal preference.

I have to stay exclusive with Cabrinha but if I had the ability I would pose the same question for any brand of gear. I actually think it would be really cool to swap gear with the other reps and team riders in the area to see what is similar and different.

Regarding Cabrinha's stupidly high prices that nearly no-one can afford, including myself. Look at the stuff that is 1 year old. It hasn't changed at all. You can still find new 2014 gear still sealed in its plastic and its priced right in with everything else on the market. I'm actually surprised and a little scared to see how cheap some of the used Cab stuff is listed at on nwkite.

I wasn't sure if this counted as commercial since I didn't think I was really advertising or selling anything but PMCD makes a good point. I posted in the general discussion thread to hopefully reach a wider audience but we can move this to commercial if you guys think that's where it belongs.

Or just integrate the commercial into the general, which makes more sense to me
