Los Roques

Just got back from Los Roques, Venezuela. Amazing trip. We stayed away from Caracas, stayed out of town near the airport on our way through. The trip was arranged by Nicky from Los Roques Travel who did an excellent job. We stayed 3 nights in a posada and 6 days on a sailboat. The sailboat is not really a necessity as most posadas have a taxi boat that can take you to most of the outer islands from Grand Roque where all the posadas are located. It just gives you first tracks in the morning before others show up at the islands. The best posada we found for kiters is Movida. Felt completely safe on the islands as opposed to the mainland which is having major problems. Los Roques Travel handled all of the transfers, hotel reservation near the airport and local flight reservations to the islands, all of which are next to impossible to do from here. Major issue is that you have to go to San Francisco in person to get your visa at the Venezuelan Consulate. They don't make it easy but it was worth the effort.
