The Health of Puget Sound

Something I'm sure we are all following as our warmer kiting season approaches.
Here is a good article on the recent and ongoing problems at the West Point Treatment plant.

Here is a link to real time data for King County Wastewater. Need to add this to our daily checks of wind, pressure, tides and temps.

Here is Everett's real time data for the Jetty Island vicinity.

I just checked the real time data link. Looks like there are 3 sites overflowing at this minute.
Why does this even happen?
It is 2017. Shouldn't we have figured out by now how to handle sewage in a consistently rainy climate in a first-world country?
Another article in the Times about the pollution.
http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-new ... heres-why/
The article states that no one is complaining.
So I sent an complaint email to Councilmember Kohl-Welles as a start.

We are not going to entertain crowds if they keep this up.

It's just crazy to think they are dumping raw sewage into the puget sound!!! And even crazier is that no one really seems to care, like JeffH said. Could make for a crappy summer

Apparently there was a dump of effluent in The Dalles today with a warning for all users down stream. They said they test "twice weekly" and today's test failed. Why in this day and age wouldn't discharge from a treatment plant be constantly and automatically monitored real time, and if it exceeds safe levels that wastewater is stored temporarily elsewhere in holding tanks, or incoming raw sewage is diverted to a holding tank, etc? Surely in 2017 the technology to prevent this is there. My fear is the current administration couldn't give two shits and things will only get crappier.
