15th annual La Ventana - Seattle Winter kiting trip.

Postby FatAirKiter » Mon Nov 07, 2016 11:25 pm

The 2017 dates are:
February 4th - 11th
February 11th - 18th

It is almost that time again and it can’t come soon enough. Heading South to that sunny and warm paradise, just when we need it the most – the middle of our cold & wet Seattle Winter season.
All are welcome, newbies, pros, wanna be’s, husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends or just vacationers looking for a hot breakfast, cold beer and lots of smiling tan faces.
Calm sunny mornings, steady wind afternoons, lots of fresh fish tacos and a great Seattle crew…such an amazing time!!!

We are lodging at a few different places this year, but near each other;

Casa Verde (ocean front hotel)
http://www.bajmahal.com/index.html

Baja Joe’s (ocean front hotel)
http://bajajoe.com/

Ventana Windsports (ocean front hotel)
http://www.ventanawindsports.com/

A bit more info:
- We plan this annual trip for 2 weeks. However, some come the 1st week, some the 2nd week, a few do both weeks.
- Every year there are beginners, rookies, tweeners, veterans, semi-pros and just beach combers.
- Casa Verde rooms are beautiful and there is a large selection, about $110 per night for two.
- Baja Joe’s also has a large selection of rooms and so does Ventana Windsports
- We typically fly into Cabo, they have many flights to choose from and arrange van transportation to La Ventana (2 hour drive).
- Flights are typically between 4- 8 hours and in the $350-$600 price range round trip.
- A big “J” shaped beach, miles of sand, steady winds in the 20’s and kiters everywhere make it an awesome kiting atmosphere.
- A typical wind day is 18 MPH – 23 MPH. Usually 4-5 days of wind each week.
- 9M & 10M are the money size kite. A 12M or 8M are goodies too.
- Don’t forget to bring your passports, evening coat, 2mm or 3mm wet suit, sunscreen, sandals and beer money!
- Snorkling, fishing, hiking, beach combing and MB riding are popular non-wind day activities.

New to kiting:
- For those of you wanting to start or are just starting kiting, LV is of the very best learning locations anywhere!
- Over 30 kite board instructors on hand there every day.

Don’t wait, air tickets go fast. Some flights are already booked up!
Don’t wait, hotel rooms go fast. Some hotels are getting full!

Please feel free to post any La Ventana (Baja, Mexico) related topics on this post!!!!! :geek:

Is anyone going to drive to La Ventana in December? I'm heading down over the holiday's for a 10 day stay. I plan to leave Seattle around December 17th (Saturday) and would be more than willing to caravan. I'm not much of a speedy driver, but pretty steady for the 2,200 mile trip.

Some pics from last year's LV Winter Seattle trip.

Took this pic of a picture of how old La Ventana looked back in the day.

Hanging out at the hotel watching all the kiters showing off.

Tuesday is slider night at Kurt-N-Marinas. Our table is always the biggest & loudest!

Our pal Jason has found himself a new trailer.

Can't wait! The 30 deg F temps here in Seattle aren't helping either.

Please help with transport of our new Baja pup back to Seattle. She was a bit too young to fly when we left LV a few weeks ago, and my son is can hardly stand the waiting to see her again. The folks at Bark for Baja in La Ventana make it easy. They will have her ready with her certificate to travel and small kennel for the flight. She can fly as soon as February 11th. We can meet you at SeaTac to meet you and pick up the grateful pup, and give you a ride home if you need it. Canela is her name. She is damn cute...
