Egypt Again

Can't seem to get enough of Egypt. Airfares are relatively cheap, ( flew Turkish Airlines thru Istanbul), good kiting community and kite center, Osmosis, and cheap accommodations( $100 per night for a couple food included). We stayed at Club Paradisio in El Gouna near Hurghada again. Wind 9 out of 9 days. We were on everything from the 7 to the 14. An earlier posting- search-Egypt has more details. Wind should be good till October then becomes less steady with either heavier winds or none at all during winter frontals. Best month seems to be August and we will probably be going back next year, will post in the spring to see if anyone else wants to go. It is no doubt a ways to go and you figure in two days travel to get there but still amazing. There is deep water kiting, a sandbar with lessons a couple of miles off shore for flat water conditions and a day trip to a deserted island once a week. The hotel has everthing needed for families with kids.

Been wanting to go for awhile, but the political situation has me thinking it's not the safest place to visit.

Been there 3 times and no issues. In fact the locals want tourism and they don't care what currency it is. Maybe some of the tourist sites around Cairo may be more sketchy but the resort area is secure and feels very safe. Only suggestion, avoid Cairo airport only because there is nothing there and fly through Istanbul. Not to say that the Pyramids and Luxor aren't amazing but we have done them before. You are surrounded by German tourists that almost can't believe that we as Americans are afraid to travel there. The hotel is most accommodating, especially when you mention you are kiters. They put you in rooms near the kite beach. Sometimes people will look over when they hear you speaking English but everyone speaks English including the staff, it is the international language. The kite shop, Osmosis, is amazing, compressed air, launch and landing crew, lessons and rentals and rescue boat at all times. The airport in Hurghada is brand new, and in 30 minutes you are on the beach. We do half fare which is breakfast and dinner, but no lunch or bar.
