Predicting SW Wind South Sound Video

Postby IslandKiter » Wed Oct 08, 2014 9:04 pm

I have had this project on my mind for a while and finally did it.
Following is a YouTube video I put together on how I try to predict wind in the South Sound - Fall/Winter Southerlies:
phpBB [video]

A lot of you are better than predicting wind than I am. If you want to comment or add more tips, please do so.
I am always looking to learn more and get better.

This should be really helpful to guys who are new to predicting wind. I try to put all the pieces together for you.
Experienced may learn a new site or two.
I have listed all the sites I use and I walk you through all of them and explain what I am looking for.

I didn't come up with all this stuff on my own. I learned most of it from this site. Undem and Alan/GotKite taught me a ton of this.
I hope you all find this useful.

nice job dave.
i sent the last few minutes worth to your wife and mother-in-law :D

There are lots of different forecasting site, but another NOAA one i find useful is the model:

The yellow highlights show either where to click, or areas to pay attention to. This is another NOAA option which does not match the other NOAA forecasting at times.

Next you can have gotkite take you through the mm5 models.

Thanks for the addition Brian. That is good stuff.

On the wife e-mail, my wife walked by when I was getting ready to do that video and saw the "Hey Babe" e-mail.
She obviously wanted to know who I was sending that to. I explained what I was up to and she thought it was funny.
The scenario depicted in the video plays out a lot at my house - be it kiteboarding, snow skiing, Mt. climbing, etc.
